Dev Diary 23-03-2026: Feats Restructuring

Greetings, Alchemists!

Welcome once again to the weekly post with previews of Master of Cladia. This week we will take a deeper look at one of the topics mentioned in the previous development diary: the restructuring of feats.

For some time now, the community has pointed out that the feats a dragon can obtain may be confusing. Many of them feature hidden or not so obvious interactions with each other, as is the case with feat families or those that can level up. In addition, the visual presentation does not always help to properly differentiate them, and in some cases it even contributes to the confusion.

A clear example of this problem is the "Spectral" and "Shadowy" feats, whose illustrations look very similar to each other despite not sharing either a feat family or an effect.

The goal of this development diary is to present the new restructuring of feats, explain the changes we are implementing, and establish a clearer foundation to prevent these kinds of issues in the future.

Renown

We are aware that many feats have unique names and descriptions, regardless of whether they belong to a feat family or not. For example, the "Blink" feat family includes a variety of different names such as "Reflection", "Phantom Illusions", and finally "Blink".

Our new proposal aims to reduce the number of unique names that players must memorize. To achieve this, we want to define a clearer glossary of statistics and effects so that players can easily associate them with a specific illustration or icon.

For this reason, perk families such as "Blink" will be restructured and renamed. We are currently evaluating different ways to represent the different levels of the same perk:

Option A:

  • Blink (Lvl. 1)
  • Blink (Lvl. 2)
  • Blink (Lvl. 3)

Option B:

  • Minor Blink
  • Blink
  • Greater Blink

Restructuring the feats would allow us to use an unique ilustration to represent the different levels of a feat

Visual Redesign

Another future objective is to accompany the restructuring of feats with a visual redesign of each of them, although this aspect is still in the experimentation phase and is not guaranteed. The team is currently exploring different proposals for redesigning the feats.

If implemented, the main focus of this redesign will be to prioritize visual clarity over spectacle and detail. The intention is for players to be able to distinguish feats, or at least identify their main effects, simply by looking at their illustration.

In summary, this restructuring aims to simplify the understanding of the feat system, reduce the number of unique names, and establish a clearer foundation for future updates.
